Social network Vkontakte acquired the domain name vk.com. This was in the newspaper on September 7 writes Vedomosti, citing data on the U.S. registrar GoDaddy, considered the largest in the world.
As explained by the publishing executive director Vkontakte Lev Leviev, a social network is preparing to enter the world market and by October 2009 will be released in versions for 12 languages. The amount spent on purchase of the domain vk.com and development of language versions of the network, were not disclosed.
Vkontakte is one of the largest in RuNet social networks. According to statistics given on the site, Vkontakte totals more than 42 million users. To date, the site vkontakte.ru available in four languages: in addition to Russian, English, Ukrainian and Belarusian languages.
Meanwhile, note the Vedomosti, the world’s largest social networks – such as Facebook and MySpace – are already available in various language versions for users worldwide. So, Facebook with an audience of 225 million users offers a choice of 63 language versions, and Myspace (130 million users) – 33 language versions.
